Gloriette – Dreamlike view over Vienna

I am still enchanted by my visit to the Gloriette and its dreamlike view of Vienna and Schönbrunn Palace. A gloriette is a building in a garden complex that is located on an elevated site overlooking the surrounding area. The largest gloriette is located in the palace gardens of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. The Gloriette is a magnificent building that was constructed in 1775 during the reign of Emperor Joseph and Empress Maria Theresa in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace. It is one of the early classicist buildings and its central section was elaborately glazed. In 1945, the east wing was destroyed by bombs. Reconstruction took place between 1947 and 1950. In 1995, it was restored again, during which the glazing was installed according to the historical plans. Since 1996, the interior of the Gloriette has been a coffee house, restaurant, and viewing platform. I am truly overwhelmed by this “temple of fame” with its 20-meter-high viewing terrace. The imperial ambience with its fantastic view of Vienna and Schönbrunn Palace is unique. I get goose bumps and the weather is at its best with bright sunshine. In the middle of the building, a mighty imperial eagle sits enthroned on the globe, surrounded by weapons trophies. The sun makes the white facades appear even whiter. I feel like I’m in a dream. My gaze wanders to the side staircases, which are lined with mighty trophies.
